Proposed Expansion

Woodbine nursing home

TRCA has been informed that Cambridge Healthcare, owner of Woodbine Nursing Home on King Street, is planning to expand their facility by building a 4-story Assisted Living facility on the vacant lot adjacent to the current Woodbine building.  As this plan may affect residents in the TRCA community, the TRCA looks forward to serving all residents of the area in better understanding Cambridge Healthcare’s proposal and its potential impact on our neighborhood.

Specifically, Cambridge Healthcare told the TRCA that the proposed facility will have 92 units (56 one-two bed units and 36 memory care units) and some number of affordable housing units (tentatively 8 beds).  They have indicated that they are still in the concept phase of development for the project and will be filing the necessary rezoning, Master Plan amendment and Development Special Use Permit applications (at least 4 according to Cambridge) with Alexandria City in the next few months.  Their attorneys anticipate that they will be before Planning Commission and City Council no earlier than the end of this year.  They are currently in the process of gathering community comments and making some revisions to try and address concerns.  More information concerning their proposal, including initial sketches and minutes from the May 15th TRCA meeting, is available.

Please keep in mind that the plans are subject to change frequently and the versions we have received are preliminary.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to post or submit your comments on TRCA's Facebook page.  TRCA anticipates holding a community-wide meeting with Cambridge Healthcare in the future.
