Join Us for National Night Out
MAKE IT A NIGHT OUT
Location: Angel Park
201 West Taylor Run Parkway
Alexandria, VA 22302 US
When: Tuesday, August 4, 7:00PM to 9:00PM
Come join your neighbors and Alexandria’s finest public servants for a night out. As part of the National Night Out Celebration, Taylor Run Citizens Association is sponsoring an evening of fun, food, and festivities with Alexandria’s Public Safety community. Show your neighborhood spirit and discuss crime concerns with representatives (both human and canine!) from Alexandria’s police, sheriff, and fire departments. Lots of cool equipment for kids to see. It is a great opportunity for families to meet one another, thank law enforcement for the work they do, and form partnerships with local law enforcement.
What to Bring:
* Yourself, your family, and your neighbors
* Lawn chairs, if you have them

Taylor Run National Night Out – August 4th, 2009, 7:00 pm @ Angel Park
The TRCA is hosting a National Night Out (NNO) event on August 4, 2007, 7:00 pm @ Angel Park. We are teaming with the Alexandria Police and Fire Departments in this unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. See http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/about.html for additional information regarding NNO. Our tentative plans include a cookout, police presentations, and maybe even a fire truck or two in what will certainly be a great way to spend a summer evening. Additional details will be posted on our blog and emailed in the coming weeks.
NNO can benefit neighborhoods in numerous ways, including:
- Creating greater community awareness about crime and its prevention
- Bringing neighbors closer together
- Increasing neighborhood reporting of crime and suspicious activities/people
- Serving as a warning to criminals that neighbors are united and organized
- Providing residents with access to law enforcement information, especially local crime trends and patterns
- Introducing neighbors to police officials and department points of contact
One simple, effective way to discourage criminal activity is reporting street light outages:
- Dominion Virginia Power is responsible for fixing our street lights.
- Call 888-667-3000 to report them (or any other outage); be sure to provide Dominion the series of numbers printed on each pole.
For any non-emergency reporting or to follow-up on past neighborhood crime issues, you may call 703-838-4444. If you like, you may ask for our Neighborhood Patrol Officer, Juan Torres. For any emergency, dial 911 immediately.
Finally, some helpful websites with area crime information include:
- www.crimereports.com – An online crime database (simply search by address and it will display a surrounding area map)
- https://enews.alexandriava.gov/index.php?CCheck=1 – Subscribe to eNews, which can include Police news releases

Susan Miranda and TRCA receive 2009 CIVIC Award
Congratulations to Susan Miranda and the TRCA community of park clean-up volunteers!
Susan, a former executive committee member, and the TRCA were selected to receive a 2009 CIVIC Award from the Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission for significant long-lasting contributions in conducting weekly clean-up events in Chinquapin Park and Angel Park. The awards will be presented this Saturday at the 260th Alexandria birthday celebration at Oronoco Bay Park.
As many of you are aware, the TRCA coordinates weekly park clean-ups (every Sunday evening in the Spring, Summer, and Fall) at Angel Park and Chinquapin Park. This great program gives back, helps beautify the community, and provides a unique opportunity for family participation.
Susan Miranda was instrumental in driving the program for several years and the TRCA is truly indebted to her for these efforts. Erin Streeter is heading up the program this year. Please review the TRCA events calendar in the link at the top of this page for available dates (basically any Sunday in which Chinquapin or Angel park remains unassigned) and email Erin @ israelfamily2006@yahoo.com with your name, phone number, date(s), and park(s).
