Taylor Run National Night Out – August 4th, 2009, 7:00 pm @ Angel Park
The TRCA is hosting a National Night Out (NNO) event on August 4, 2007, 7:00 pm @ Angel Park. We are teaming with the Alexandria Police and Fire Departments in this unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. See http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/about.html for additional information regarding NNO. Our tentative plans include a cookout, police presentations, and maybe even a fire truck or two in what will certainly be a great way to spend a summer evening. Additional details will be posted on our blog and emailed in the coming weeks.
NNO can benefit neighborhoods in numerous ways, including:
- Creating greater community awareness about crime and its prevention
- Bringing neighbors closer together
- Increasing neighborhood reporting of crime and suspicious activities/people
- Serving as a warning to criminals that neighbors are united and organized
- Providing residents with access to law enforcement information, especially local crime trends and patterns
- Introducing neighbors to police officials and department points of contact
One simple, effective way to discourage criminal activity is reporting street light outages:
- Dominion Virginia Power is responsible for fixing our street lights.
- Call 888-667-3000 to report them (or any other outage); be sure to provide Dominion the series of numbers printed on each pole.
For any non-emergency reporting or to follow-up on past neighborhood crime issues, you may call 703-838-4444. If you like, you may ask for our Neighborhood Patrol Officer, Juan Torres. For any emergency, dial 911 immediately.
