TRCA Annual Fall Halloween Party — October 25th

HWPartySave the Date! The Annual TRCA Community Block Party will be held on Sunday, October 25th, from 3-5 PM on the 600 block of West View Terrace between South View Terrace and Hilltop Terrace. We will have hot barbecue, cold drinks, live music, moon bounce, a Halloween children’s parade, fire truck, and more. The event is open to all residents within the TRCA community.  Please plan to come and help make this our best block party yet! The event is free, but we are collecting donations for food with any proceeds benefiting the TRCA Scholarship Fund. We do ask you to RSVP on our web site at www.taylorrunalexandria.com so we can maintain accurate food expectations and you’ll remain informed of any whether related change of plans, etc. Volunteers are always welcome! We look forward to seeing you.

Fall General Membership Meeting — October 22nd

democrats-republicansOur next general membership meeting is on October 22nd.  As part of the meeting, we are hosting a candidates night for Virginia’s 45th House of Delegates.  Incumbent Democrat David Englin has confirmed and Republican challenger Vicki Vasques has been invited.  In addition, George Seghers, Executive Director of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, will be our guest speaker.  Mr. Seghers will address future plans for the Masonic Memorial grounds.  This presentation will undoubtedly be of great interest to many in the community.  Refreshments, snacks, and seating begin at 6:45 PM; meeting begins promptly at 7:00 PM in the Masonic Memorial’s Theatre room.  Please sign-up to remain informed of this event at the following link.  See you there.

City of Alexandria Annual Family Fall Festival, Saturday October 17th

The City of Alexandria’s Family Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Armistead L. Boothe Park, located at 520 Cameron Station Blvd. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is free.

Entertainment features the Beale Street Puppet Theatre, magic show and karate demonstrations. Activities and exhibits feature the Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center, face painting, pumpkin painting, Robbie the Recycling Squirrel, the Alexandria Fire Dept., an art activity, booth hay rides, among others. As part of the City’s Plastic Bag Initiative, residents can bring plastic bags to be recycled and receive a free reusable bag.

New for 2009: Tickets will be sold for $5 each or 4 for $15 for the pony rides, moon bounce, bouncy boxing and scarecrow building. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.

This festival is sponsored by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities in partnership with Browne Academy of Alexandria and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School of Alexandria, Virginia.

Limited parking is available at Armistead L. Boothe Park, 520 Cameron Station Blvd. The public is encouraged to bike, walk or take public transit to the event.
